PENDARREN MARCH 2023

Day One - We arrived safely in Wales and made the most of a  beautiful afternoon. We had our picnic lunch in the garden and had some free time to play. In our groups we helped to plant saplings to create our very own Earlsmead forest. We explored the area around Pendarren House and made friends with a friendly horse.

We planted some trees to leave a legacy for Earlsmead. We worked hard to plant over 100 trees!! A slow worm decided to say hello to a few of us. They are rarely seen, but a good sign to a healthy garden.

Day Two - A torrential downpour didn’t dampen our spirits. We walked from Langland to Caswell Bay along the coastal path. We ate our picnic in the cosy minibus before hitting the beach in the afternoon to catch some sea creatures from the rock pools.

Day Three - Today some of us went to Big Pit coal mining museum. We discovered how coal was mined and explored an actual underground mine.

It was also perfect weather for ducks and paddling along the canal in our canoes. We demonstrated fantastic teamwork and resilience to paddle our way along the canal together. Every group was able to work together and learn so many new skills.

Groups 3 and 4 had a fantastic afternoon on our coastal visit.

Day Three Evening - Our evening activity was very special. The author Daniel Morden visited us and treated us to a storytelling session. We also enjoyed playing games like Uno and Twister.

Every morning we make our own sandwiches for our picnic lunch. We can choose from lots of different fillings and salad. When we get to lunchtime we enjoy the sandwiches we’ve made so much more.

Day Four - Group three learnt facts about mining today at The Big Pit Museum.

We had an atmospheric experience walking through a disused railway tunnel in darkness. We didn’t have any light so had to help each other find the way.

Every group has now climbed a mountain. Today was so windy and wet but we pushed through and reached the summit of Tor y Foel mountain. We have achieved so many goals this week both individually and in our group teams.

We had to dig into our resilience today as we trekked up Tor y Foel. We had a great view and got to see a full rainbow. We were so high up that we saw two fighter jets flying by!
