Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
At Earlsmead school we put a great emphasis on the teaching of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We offer children opportunities to examine the fundamental questions related to local and global issues through a culturally inclusive curriculum,a range of themed weeks, community cohesion workshops and charitable causes. Their work on the environmental issues leads children to ask questions about the state and future of the planet. For example, children learn the way people recycle materials, and how environments are changed for better or for worse in relation to sustainable development.
Through teaching about contrasting localities and themed humanities week, we enable the children to learn about possible inequalities and injustices in the world and encourage children to think what it means to make a positive contribution to the society. We help children to develop their knowledge and understanding of different cultures, so that they learn to avoid stereotyping other people, and acquire a positive attitude towards others.
