As part of our R.E. topic on the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, we went on a trip to the Jewish Museum in Camden, London to learn more about how and why the festival is celebrated. On our trip we re-enacted the story of the Maccabees, which tells the story of a group of people who decided to revolt against an evil king’s wishes. Within the story we learnt the reason behind the 8 candles on a Hanukiah and why light and oil are so important during the 8 day festival.

At the end of the session we made candles using wax which would be used in a Hanuikah.

We had to make two candles; a tall candle called the samash (which means ‘helper’ in Hebrew) and smaller one for the Hanukiah.

For our DT topic we have been looking at mechanisms. We have learnt about mechanisms through the making of moving pictures. We had to design our pictures first then create a mechanisms for them using card and split pins which would allow them  to move.

As part of our History topic on the Stone Age to the Iron Age we looked at how people during the Stone Age began living in one place instead of travelling around. People also began farming instead of hunting and gathering food.

We made home from a real settlement called Skara Brae. This settlement was built in 3180BC, that’s about 5,000 years ago.

For our Science topic on Electricity we have been learning about the dangers of electricity as well as the components that make up an electrical circuit.

Today we used different electrical components to make a complete circuit. We labelled each part and learnt why the wire is covered in plastic.
