Stone Age – building Skara Brae
The oldest buildings in northern Europe are in the Stone Age settlement of Skara Brae in the Orkney Islands. We learned about how Stone Age people gave up their lives as hunter-gatherers and became farmers, living in one place all here. We made our own Skara Brae models, complete with furnaces, beds and even people!

Stone Age – artefacts

We carefully examined pictures and copies of prehistoric artefacts to see how technology changed from the Stone Age through to the iron! We made observations about artefacts and learned how they were made.

Nrich – Practical Problem Solving

On Fridays we solve practical problems in Maths, using trial and error or trying each possible solution until we get an answer and seeing what we learned on the way! In this lesson, we were trying to recreate 3D versions of shapes drawn on paper with cubes.

RE – Visit to the Jewish Museum We learned about Hannukah as the festival approached at the Jewish Museum in Camden. We heard and re-enacted the fight of the Maccabees for their religious freedoms over 2,000 years ago. Later we made Hannukah candles for the Hannukeah to celebrate the story of the miracle in the temple. Indigo Class made their own candles from coloured wax and we got to take them home!

D&T – Moving Pictures

Indigo Class assembled a mechanism with levers and pivots to make their designs of moving pictures come to life!

Indigo Class were lucky to have a visit from the Animated Poet, Lemar Barrett, who helped us put together group poems about our aspirations!

We were reading Michael Foreman’s story of young men in the trenches ‘War Game’. We re-enacted the Christmas Truce between British and German soldiers in the winter of 1914. Here, our Tommies are shivering together in their trench! We later wrote stories set in the First World War.
