What is my child learning?

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
Children should learn to;

  • be confident in new situations and to ask adults for help
  • be able to play in a group, e.g. building up a role-play activity with other children
  • tolerate delay when their needs are not met immediately and understand wishes may not be met 

Communication & Language and Literacy: 
Children should learn to; 

  • talk about themselves, what they like and don’t like and talk about what they are doing
  • listen to stories and poems
  • respond to simple instructions e.g. to get or put object away
  • make marks on paper and talk about it

Physical Development:
Children should learn to;

  • move freely and with pleasure and confidence in a range of ways such as walking, running, sliding, hopping and rolling
  • use equipment and tools safely
  • dress with help and to manage self-care independently


Mathematics:
Children should learn to;

  • use number names in play
  • recites some number names in sequence  
  • show an interest in shapes by playing with them

Understanding of the World:
Children should learn to; 

  • show interest in the lives of people who are familiar to them
  • talk about things they have observed 
  • show an interest in technology 

Expressive Arts & Design:
Children should learn to;

  • enjoy joining in with singing, dancing and ring games
  • recognise and explore colours
  • engage in imaginative role-play based on their own experiences. 

Other information:
Sometimes we ask for donations of ingredients or equipment such as flour, butter, sugar, boxes, bottles, etc. We use these during the nursery session for cooking or making models. We will put a notice on the nursery door when we need these items. 
Please continue to help your children to put on their coats on their own and also help them with toileting.
